Switzerland County's "Swiss Idol" organizers announced upcoming auditions for the sixth annual singing competition in Vevay.

Participants wanting to compete for the top three prizes in the talent competition will get a chance to audition at 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 at the Historic Hoosier Theater.

The final "Swiss Idol" event will feature 12 contestants performing on March 2 at the theater.

Contestants must pre-register for the "Swiss Idol" auditions at the Switzerland County Visitors Center, 128 W. Main St. in Vevay. Participants may also call the Switzerland County Visitors Center at (812) 427-3237 or (800) 435-5688 to sign up on or before Feb. 16 as space for the event is limited.

Singers must arrive before 5:30 p.m. for instructions on the evening of the auditions. Auditions begin at 6 p.m. Contestants must prepare two songs that are not longer than four minutes each, and all auditions will be a capella - or without accompaniment, a release said.

Finalists will be chosen by the judges after auditions, and 12 semi-finalists will be notified by Feb. 18 that they have advanced to the "Swiss Idol" event on March 2.

Participants do not have to be a Switzerland County resident to participate in the "Swiss Idol" competition, but entrants need to be at least age 13 or older to participate in the event. Contestants will be judged on vocals, stage presence, originality and dress, a release said.

A top prize of $500 will be awarded, as well as $250 for second place and $100 for third place, the release said.
