Derby Dinner Playhouse opened its 40th anniversary and 2014-2015 show season with a comedy about just how far a con artist will go for money.
"Cash on Delivery" - which will be on stage through June 29 - features a con artist who has duped welfare authorities for years by claiming benefits for many people he claims are living at an address.
The scam nets the man tens of thousands of tax-free dollars.
Just as the con artist decides to kill off many of the imaginary recipients, welfare investigators show up. The man attempts to outwit the officials by enlisting the help of his crazy friends and family.
The fast-paced farce was written by Michael Cooney. The Derby Dinner production is directed by Bekki Jo Schneider.
The cast includes: Cary Wiger as Eric Swan, Tina Jo Wallace as Linda Swan, J.R. Stuart as Norman McDonald, John Vessels as Mr. Jenkins, Bill Hanna as Uncle George, Janet Essenpreis as Sally Chessington, Paul Kerr as Doctor Chapman, David Myers as Mr. Forbright, Elizabeth Loos as Ms. Cowper and Marina Hart as Miss Dixon.
Tickets for the dinner show are $41 for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evening performances. Tickets are $42 for the Friday evening show and $45 for the Saturday evening production.
The doors for all evening productions and the buffet open at 6 p.m. with the curtain rising at 7:45 p.m.
Tickets cost $36 for the Wednesday matinee, and tickets for the Sunday matinee are $37. Matinee buffets open at 11:45 a.m. with the production beginning around 1 p.m.
