The Madison Art Club opened a new exhibit last week, featuring artists from Floyd County.

The Floyd County Crit Club, a group of amateur and professional artists, will have artwork on display at the Madison Art Club through the end of October in the front of the art gallery.

During an awards reception Saturday, first through third place awards were handed out by Madison Art Club member Gary Chapman. Awards were divided into amateur and professional categories, and honorable mentions were awarded as well.

The Floyd County Crit Club meets on the third Monday of every month at 2200 N. Greentree Blvd., in Clarksville. The group invites guest artists from around the area to critique the work of club members and discuss their works.

Elle Smith, a member of the Madison Art Club, has attended one of the meetings to see Louisville artist John Michael Carter critique artwork and also give a presentation.

"We listened to him talk about the pros and cons of each work and what they might do to improve their paintings and what they can do to improve on their message," Smith said.

Carter, she said, also gave a demonstration regarding what he looks for when he begins a new portrait.

"We found it very interesting," Smith said.

After the presentation, Art on Main invited the Crit Club to show their work in Madison. There are currently 20 pieces of artwork from Crit Club members on display at Art on Main.
