Barry Manilow's music has been brought to life on stage at the Derby Dinner Playhouse.
The musical comedy "Copacabana," based on the Grammy Award winning song of the same name, premiered this week at the Clarksville venue.
The play presents the story of Lola - a show girl - through the eyes of Stephen, an aspiring songwriter whose imagination takes him back to the music of the 1940s.
More of Manilow's music makes it into the musical, like "Dancing Fool," "I Gotta Be Bad," and "Havana, Cramba."
A press release issued by the Derby Dinner Playhouse described the musical as "a love letter to the Technicolor musicals of the 1940s, 'Copacabana' is full of huge, splashy production numbers with sensational choreography."
The Derby Dinner's production of "Copacabana" is under the direction of Lee Buckholz with choreography by Heather Paige Folsom, and musical direction by Scott Bradley.
The book for "Copacabana" was written by Barry Manilow, Jack Feldman, and Bruce Sussman, with music by Barry Manilow.
The cast includes Kayla Peabody as Lola La Mar/Samantha, Jillian Prefach as Conchita Alvarez, Cami Glauser as Gladys Murphy, Nick Fitzer as Rico Castelli, Jordan Cyphert as Tony Forte/Stephen and John Vessels as Sam Silver.
The play will run through March 30. Ticket prices are between $36 and $45.
