Vevay First Friday tips its hat to spring

Vevay will celebrate the first signs of spring during the April First Friday with the fifth annual hat contest, "Hats Off to Spring."
The contest features new and updated categories with Most Glamorous, Most Original, Most Outrageous or Funniest, Largest, Best Flowers and Hat-A-Tude for the best adapted creation, a release said.
First Friday visitors are asked to stop by Vevay Swiss Inn, 100 E. Main St., where the contest judging will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Winners will be announced after the contest during First Friday.
The hat contest is sponsored by Vevay Main Street. Members of Switzerland County's "Red Hot Hatters" will judge the contest.
Sidewalk entertainment also returns to the lineup of Vevay's First Friday activities.
Dan Bixler and John Sheckler will play Americana and folk music on Ferry Street. The duo R&R - Jamie Royce and Claude Reece - will be playing classic rock music during the event on West Main Street near Creative Images.
The First Friday event begins at 6 p.m. with several businesses and art galleries staying open for extended hours until 9 p.m.
Free carriage rides also will be available during the evening, weather permitting. Guests are asked to board for rides near the Switzerland County Courthouse.
May's First Friday activities will feature the theme of "Lemonade Day."
First Friday activities, which are featured year-round, are free and open to the public.
