The Actors Theatre of Louisville will begin 2014 with a humorous pirate tale.

The musical comedy, "The Pirates of Penzance," will be shown at the Bingham Theatre, 316 West Main St.

The show will run Tuesday through Feb. 4. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; 8 p.m. on Fridays; 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturdays; and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. There are no shows scheduled for Mondays.

The play has a run time of 80 minutes and will be performed by a 10-member cast from a theatre group in Chicago called The Hyprocites.

The show follows Frederic, who mistakenly apprentices with a band of tender-hearted pirates. At 21, he falls for the major general's daughter and plans to leave the pirate life for good.

Individual ticket prices start at $35, but group and student discounts are available.

Audience members also can purchase a "promenade ticket," which gives them a seat onstage where they esstenially become an extra cast member.

Later in the month, the theater will show "Our Town" starting Jan. 21 through Feb. 9. In addition to the performances, the theater gallery will host its 20th anniversary African American Art Exhibition from Jan. 7 to Feb. 16.

The exhibition will feature all original works from artists through several forms of media. Artists can enter as many as six pieces.

Kevin Cole, who recieved his bachelor's of science degree from University of Arkansas and a masters degree in art education from the University of Illinois, will be the exhibition juror.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. ad Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 10 p.m.
