The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site is kicking off spring with its annual garden show Saturday that will feature a lecture from a nationally known landscape and interior designer.

This year's A Garden Affair event - which has already sold out - will include a speaker, luncheon, silent auction and booths from local vendors. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Market on Main, 801 W. Main St. Lunch will be at noon.

Jamie Gibbs, principal of the New York-based interior design and landscape architecture firm Jamie Gibbs Associates, will present this year's talk entitled, "Living in an old house does not mean you have to have an old garden: Tales of a garden restoration in Indianapolis."

"My illustrated talk will highlight the plant selections, successes and pitfalls of this enormous project, and I will give helpful suggestions to those looking to maintain and improve their own gardens," Gibbs said in a news release. "Some of the highlights include spring bulb displays, container plantings, perennials old and new, flowering and evergreen shrubs, ornamental trees and garden ornaments."

Local vendors will include Art on Main, Can Dangle Jewelry, Dish it Out, Galena Garlic, Jefferson County Soil & Water District, Twerlingers - an antique silver company - and a booth from the Lanier Mansion gift shop.

All proceeds from the program benefit the Lanier Mansion Foundation, which supports the restoration and maintenance of the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.
