A professional puppetry company will return to the Historic Hoosier Theater in Vevay as part of the town's Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday.

The puppet show has become an Easter tradition in Vevay and is held in conjunction with the Easter Egg Hunt. The Frisch Marionettes Co., based out of Cincinnati, will present its variety show twice during the day, 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Every aspect of a Frisch production is designed, created and recorded in their own workshops. Each puppet is hand carved, every costume is sewn and custom tailored for each character. Frisch Marionettes incorporates all styles of puppetry into their performance, but the emphasis is on the marionette, the most complicated type of puppetry to master.

In 1986, Kevin Frisch moved to New York City and joined Nicolas Coppola and The Puppetworks of Brooklyn. In 1995, Frisch moved to Cincinnati to begin the Frisch Marionette Co. Working with primarily marionettes, the Frisch Marionette Co. performs in the traditional styles of the 19th century European puppetry.

The Frisch Marionettes have been seen in Showtime's "Twisted Puppet Theater," "The American Puppet" on PBS, Toyota commercials and most recently in the film, "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium."

In addition to the Frisch's performances, Saturday's events will include a cake walk, an appearance by the Easter Bunny and an Easter egg hunt at noon. The events take place at Paul Ogle Riverfront Park in downtown Vevay, but the activities will be moved to the YMCA in event of rain.

Lunch will be served at the Vevay Methodist Church at 11 a.m. and include an appearance from the Easter Bunny.

Tickets for the variety show are $5 each and available at the Switzerland County Visitors Center on Main Street in Vevay. The office can be reached at (812) 427-3750.
