The Trimble County High School theater program will present a comedy production during a dinner theater event this week.
Students will present American playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon's "Fools" on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and performances begin at 7 p.m. each day.
The play, set in the late 1800s, features a lovestruck teacher attempting to adjust to his new surroundings in the Ukranian village of Kulyenchikov.
Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic after landing a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. Yet when he arrives, Tolchinsky finds a few odd happenings: people sweeping dust from their stoops back into their homes and people milking cows upside down to get more cream.
The town was cursed with Chronic Stupidity about 200 years ago, the play's description says, and Tolchinsky's job is to break the curse.
No one tells Tolchinsky that if he stays too long and fails to break the curse, he too becomes a victim cursed with Chronic Stupidity. Yet during his short time in Kulyenchikov, he falls in love with a girl already affected by the town's chronic condition.
The "Fools" cast includes: Daniel Ramsey as Leon Tolchinsky, Joshua Larrison as Dr. Zubritsky, Madeline Withrow as Lenyz Zubritsky, Hayley Baker as Sophia Zubritsky, Brantley Barnes as County Youskevitch, Trevor Browning as Snetsky, Austin Leach as Slovitch, Aleesha Proctor as Mishkin, Megan West as Yenchna, Andrew Hereford as Magistrate, Haylee Coleman as Koo, Tanyon Gould as Page, Marrisa Ford as Cat Lady, Jordan Fox as Cow and Hannah Starks as Chicken.
The show will be performed in the Trimble County High School gymnasium, 1029 U.S. 421-N.
Tickets for the dinner theater are $10, high school drama coach Carrie Law said. Tickets for the show only are $5.
Dinner is free for children under the age of 5, but show tickets are still $5.
