Carroll residents warned of road work
Saturday, June 14, 2014 4:48 AM
Road work continues throughout Carroll County, and Judge-Executive Harold "Shorty" Tomlinson warned area residents to use extra caution in those areas.
Tomlinson said motorists should be aware of the construction on KY 227 near the high school. A few drivers have been involved in minor accidents since construction began, he told magistrates during a meeting Friday morning.
"I would like to urge people to use a bit more caution," Tomlinson said. "We know it's an inconvenience."
The work will add a turn lane near the high school driveway and slightly move northbound lanes to make room for a center turn lane. Work is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, weather permitting.
Tomlinson said he had also been in contact with CSX Railroad about work on the railroad crossing on KY 227. He hopes the railroad will replace the crossing with concrete, which will withstand heavy truck traffic and last longer than the wooden crossing.
Should the railroad agree, the state has a program that would pay for the materials, Tomlinson said.
Resurfacing work also continues throughout the county, including Stafford Ridge, Tom Town roads.
In other business:
Tomlinson reappointed Nicholas Marsh to the Carroll County Public Library board. The Fiscal Court declared a few unused items from the county roads department, emergency operations center, jail and sheriff's department as surplus during the meeting. Desks, filing cabinets and a few vehicles will be sold during a public auction, which will be held in the next few months.
The next Carroll County Fiscal Court meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on June 26.
