L.E. "Chip" Horner presents a brief biography of his uncle, John Horner during a memorial service at The Point on the Hanover College campus on Saturday. John Horner served as president of the college for 29 years, from 1958 to 1987. Horner died in February.
The memorial service included speeches from Jim Copeland, a former student; Hanover professor Stanley Totten and family friend Frank McNally.
There were also a number of scripture readings chosen in advance by Horner for his service.
Totten called Horner a master-fundraiser for the school and talked about the extensive building programs and enrollment growth during Horner's tenure. He also touted Horner's ability to organize volunteers and provide the necessary leadership in the aftermath of the 1974 tornado that heavily damaged the campus.
