Pam Quick (left to right), Bill Lackner, Paul Nicholson, Laura Hesse and Karen Ricketts were recognized by Mark Newman, executive director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, for their hospitality efforts at the Madison-Jefferson County Hospitality Awards presentation at the Madison Visitors Center on Wednesday.

Nicholson received the Honoring Our Super Tourism Stars - HOSTS award - for his interaction with tourists who rode the Rockin' Thunder Jet Boat last year. Quick, Lackner and Hesse received honorable mention HOSTS nominations.

Nicholson and Rockin Thunder Jet Boat co-captain Janet Harding were also thanked for their river taxi service between Madison and Milton during the bridge closure.

Quick was nominated for her work with Broomtail Carriage; Lackner for his tours at the Lanier Mansion; Hesse for her service as a Riverboat Inn employee. Ricketts could not receive a nomination for the HOSTS award because she works for the Visitors Center, but she was recognized because of the many favorable comments the center has received for her work.

Tours of Madison's historic sites are being offered for free this week to Jefferson County residents. Visit Madison Inc. hopes the free tours will encourage residents to recommend the sites to visitors. (Staff photo by Ken Ritchie/
