DAR HONORS LOCAL STUDENTS

Top, Clark Collier of Madison Consolidated High School (from left to right), Jessica Smith of Southwestern High School and Eamon Fry of Shawe Memorial High School were named the Good Citizenship Award winners by the John Paul Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The awards were presented during a ceremony at Madison Presbyterian Church last week. The Good Citizenship Award applicants submit recommendations, transcripts, a summary of their accomplishments and each must write and recite an essay. This year's essay topic was "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It: How are our freedoms and responsibilities as good citizens changing?"

Bottom, the John Paul Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented the awards for their annual American History Essay Contest during a ceremony at Madison Presbyterian Church last week. Local elementary school students submitted essays based on this year's topic, "Forgotten Patriots who Supported the American Struggle for Independence." The winners of the essay contest were all fifth graders from Deputy Elementary School. They were (left to right) Amber Killey, in third place; Anne Hassfurder in first place and Jessie Dyer in second place.
