The Southwestern Schools technical review committee met Tuesday to approve forms for construction plans.
The request for qualifications documentation was approved at the meeting, and will be sent out to potential firms who may wish to work with the school.
The plan being advertised is for a $1.6 million activity center that would be constructed east of the high school, near where the existing tennis courts are. Under the preliminary plan, the building would include basketball courts, an area for band and choir performances, a classroom and storage area.
Statements of qualification are due to the school by 2 p.m. June 12. The committee is scheduled to meet on June 17, where members will interview design-builders who have applied.
A contract will be awarded at the school board's July 28 meeting.
The plan is still in a preliminary phase, and the school district is still looking at exactly what it wants to go into the facility.
"We're just trying to get some ideas of what we want, where to start," said Laura Boldery, the district's treasurer and a member of the committee. The other committee members are Larry Childress, a local contractor, and Daniel Rawlins, an architect with the Indianapolis-based architectural development firm InterDesign.
