The Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County has approved a $100,000 grant to help fund the new Cancer Treatment Center at King's Daughters' Health.
A 2013 Community Needs Assessment showed that Jefferson County ranks above the state average for overall incidence of cancer.
"When awarding grants, the Community Foundation evaluates each individual grant on the impact it will have on the county at large," said Carri Dirksen, Community Foundation Grants Committee Chair.
"Unfortunately, everyone in Jefferson County knows of someone that has been touched by cancer whether it is a friend, a loved one, a neighbor. ... With this in mind, the Community Foundation is proud to help fund the new Cancer Treatment Center at KDH," Dirksen said.
"Our gratitude to the Community Foundation extends far beyond today. The impact of their generosity will be felt for decades," said Sue Livers, Director of the KDH Foundation.
"Cancer knows no boundaries. Fighting cancer takes a commitment from area businesses, foundations, individuals, and organizations. It takes all of us working together," Livers said.
The new cancer facility will include advanced imaging and radiation equipment. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2015.
