Pair arrested in Tapatio's break-in
Monday, June 02, 2014 11:00 AM
Madison police arrested two people Sunday they say were involved in a burglary at Tapatio's Mexican Restaurant.
Cody A. Miller, 20, and Brooke E. Kincaid, 19, both of Madison, were arrested on charges of burglary and illegal possession of alcohol. Kincaid is also charged with aiding a criminal.
While off duty, Patrolman Ricky Harris noticed a vehicle suspected to have been used during a break-in at the restaurant, Chief Dan Thurston said in a news release.
Patrolman Seth Melton stopped the vehicle, which Thurston said had been driven by Miller.
Officers noticed several alcohol bottle caps and a full bottle of alcohol in the back seat of the car, Thurston said. They obtained consent to search the vehicle.
Thurston said the alcohol bottle had Spanish writing on it, which led officers to believe it had been taken from the restaurant.
Officers obtained a search warrant for Miller's residence and found more alcohol bottles from Tapatio's and a hooded sweatshirt officers saw Miller wearing in surveillance footage, Thurston said.
Thurston said this is the third time Tapatio's has been broken into in the past month, but Miller and Kincaid are suspected in only one of those. The other two burglaries are still under investigation.
