Hollywood couldn't have written a better script ... except, perhaps, for the final few minutes of this year's Madison Regatta Festival.
The sun shone down on Madison all week, helping us forget about last year's disaster when weather forced the cancellation of the Regatta.
This year, from beginning to end, the festival went off without a hitch.
A huge crowd cheered as the new Oberto/Miss Madison driver Jimmy Shane sat atop his new ride as it made its way down Main Street during Friday night's parade.
Shane was the star of the weekend, even though the race didn't quite end the way he had hoped. A violation at the start of the final heat forced Shane to take a one-lap penalty, dropping him to a fourth-place finish in a race that was his to win.
"I waited all weekend for this, I'm disappointed," one unhappy Regatta fan said after the race. "But I still love Jimmy... He's our future," the man said.
As tents were being folded and vendors closed up shop, most everyone agreed that the Regatta is back, stronger than ever.
