An Indianapolis woman was injured after falling down a ravine at Clifty Falls State Park on Sunday.
Claire Hochman-Hefner was hiking on Trail 8 with her husband, daughter and her daughter's friend, Sheriff John Wallace said.
Hochman-Hefner was walking with dogs, which Wallace said ran after a small animal. While looking over a ravine for the dogs, the ground gave away and Hochman-Hefner fell more than 150 feet to the creekbed, Wallace said.
Hochman-Hefner suffered a broken arm, fratured ribs, a punctured lung and a concussion, Wallace said. Her injuries are non-life threatening.
She was taken to King's Daughters' Hospital, and later to Indianapolis Methodist Hospital by ambulance.
Crews responding to the scene included the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Madison Township Fire Department, Washington Engine Co. 2, Clifty 6 Rescue and the Department of Natural Resources. The Salvation Army provided water to crews. Dr. Kevin Watkins checked the dogs; Wallace said they were unharmed.
