3 new officers join MPD
Tuesday, June 03, 2014 11:00 AM
Three new Madison police officers will be sworn in during tonight's City Council meeting.
Kyle Cutshaw, Aaron Watson and Jordan Bowles have accepted positions with the Madison Police Department and began working Sunday.
Chief Dan Thurston said two of the three have completed training and will not have to attend additional police academy courses.
Also at Monday's Board of Works meeting, Madison Fire Chief Steve Horton said that King's Daughters' Health EMS is now able to activate the city's emergency warning sirens. That location will act as a backup, Horton said, in case the central dispatch is knocked offline.
In other business:
The board approved street closings for the Madison Regatta from July 4-6. Street closings are the same as in previous years.
The board approved a parking space closure near 205 E. Main St. The parking space may be occupied by a lift used to repair tuckpointing on the building's facade.
The board approved a street closing for the 400 block of East Second Street, so the Prince of Peace parish can bring in a crane to make repairs on its steeple.
Two handicapped parking spaces were approved by the board. One will be at 410 Baltimore St. and the second space will be at 420 Cragmont St. An application for a space at 125 Jefferson St. was denied because it did not meet qualifications.
