Contractors expect work on the second phase of the Trimble County Schools athletic fields to be completed in three weeks.

Trimble County School Board members heard from Jim Marcus with David Construction about the project during a meeting Wednesday night. Marcus told board members the asphalt for the track has been placed around outer rim of the football field and the pole vault areas of the project were completed this week.

Contractors expect to lay sod, frame the roofs and roof the buildings next week.

"Things will go quick from there," Marcus said. "We think we're three weeks out."

Construction is expected to be completed by Aug. 1 to allow an appropriate growing time for the grass on the football field.

School officials expect the field to be ready for the first home game at the end of August.

Board members also discussed one change order to the project during the meeting.

Instead of an asphalt track, the school district plans to add a latex running surface. The change order comes at a cost of $77,000.

Lanes will be striped after the running surface is installed.
