Laura Hesse, a senior at Shawe Memorial High School, was selected as an Indiana Academic All Star for 2013 by the Indiana Association of School Principals and the Indianapolis Star last weekend.

The groups named 40 students as Academic All Stars.

The selection process combines the SAT/ACT composite score, grade-point average from seven semesters, academic courses, academic achievements and awards, academic related extracurricular activities and leadership roles within those activities.

Non-academic extracurricular activities and community service involvement are also taken into consideration. In addition, nominees submit an essay honoring an influential teacher. Laura chose her physics teacher, Maria Armbrech.

Laura has been selected as a National Merit Finalist, serves as President of the National Honor Society, and is Captain of Shawe's Academic Super Bowl Science Team.

Laura received her award at the Indiana Academic All Star banquet in Indianapolis. She is the daughter of Steve and Lisa Hesse.
