Man charged after break-in
Courier Staff Report
Thursday, March 20, 2014 11:00 AM
A Sellersburg man was arrested Tuesday after police say he broke into a home in the 2500 block of Green Hills Drive and stole a cell phone.
Chad T. Hester, 34, faces charges of residential burglary, theft, criminal mischief and false informing.
Madison police say Hester broke out a sliding glass window at the home - where he formerly lived - and threatened the owners before taking a cell phone and fleeing on foot.
Senior Patrolwoman Season Jackson located Hester in the area of Flint Street and Indiana Avenue. The suspect identified himself as John Meade, but Jackson later discovered that was a false identity, according to the report. Patrolman Ricky Harris then called the number of the stolen cell phone and it rang in Hester's pocket, according to a news release.
Hester was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail without further incident.
