A Commiskey man died Saturday morning after a log fell on his truck and then struck him.
Jerry L. Spicer, 74, was found at the Baxter Lumber Mill, on Deputy Pike just before 10 a.m., according to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
According to the report, Spicer was found next to the approximately 1,000-pound log. Spicer was reportedly delivering logs to the lumber yard.
He was the owner and operator of Spicer Logging for 50 years, according to his obituary, and was not an employee of Baxter Lumber Mill.
A medical helicopter responded to the scene but did not arrive before Spicer died at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office and the Deputy Fire Department assisted at the scene.
I work for a lumber company and this is very upsetting to me. I would like to use this as a safety lesson.
