A nonprofit organization that helps families with children fighting cancer plans to hold an indoor yard sale this weekend with proceeds from the event going to support the group's cause.
Helping Our Pediatric Patients Smile - or H.O.P.P.S. - volunteers plan to hold the yard sale at the Vevay Utility Building, 508 W. Seminary St. in Vevay. The sale begins at 8 a.m. with the event ending around 4 p.m.
Clothes, furniture, household items, baby items, appliances and more will be for sale during the event with all proceeds benefiting families fighting pediatric cancer.
H.O.P.P.S. will use the proceeds to help families of children with cancer by donating needed items like gas cards, grocery gift cars, care packages and other items to families during their stay at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Ky., a release said. The group also supplies food and personal items to the hospital for patients and their families.
Volunteers also will be collecting food during the yard sale in Vevay. Food donations will be stored in the kitchen areas to allow parents of pediatric patients to have access to meals without leaving the hospital.
Suggested donations include canned soups, canned pasta or other easy-to-make meal items. Kitchen areas have a microwave, refrigerator, freezer and stove top, but no ovens.
