State Road 256 will close April 1 for the $1,342,400 pavement replacement project at Austin.
Barricades are being placed at the S.R. 256 intersection with U.S. Highway 31 and at the intersection with Audrey Lane to block all through-traffic. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.
An official detour routes motorists around the construction zone via U.S. 31, south to S.R. 56, east to S.R. 203 and north to S.R. 256.
The Indiana Department of Transportation is rebuilding S.R. 256 from Church Street eastward for .45 miles. The project includes new water lines, storm sewer trunk line, a new culvert at Austin Ditch, 6-foot sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps and transitions at street and driveway approaches.
Right-of-way clearing and utility relocations were done last year. Some storm sewer work has also been accomplished.
Temple & Temple Excavating of Salem is the state's prime contractor for the S.R. 256 project. Contract completion date is August 29.
