Shawe Memorial Junior/Senior High School is headed to the state Academic Super Bowl this weekend at Purdue University.

The high school science team qualified for the contest. The English team was one point away from qualifying. The top six teams in Class 4 advanced to state competition.

"I thought we had a pretty good chance of qualifying for State," science team coach Maria Armbrecht, said. "I would put my group of kids up against anyone."

The science team qualified after a regional competition in Austin. Shawe had teams in English, science, social studies, math and fine arts. All but the math team placed at the annual academic competition.

The Science Team placed first at the Austin event. Team members are Collan Henderson, Rebekah Israel, Nash Uebel, Paul Koronkevich and Garrett Grimes. The team is coached by Armbrecht and Susan Frede.

The Social Studies, English, Fine Arts and Interdisciplinary teams all placed second. Social Studies team members are Collin Hambrick, Alex Turner, Joey Belt, Michael Abbott, Allison Payton. The team is coached by Jane Riehle.

The English Team members are Myles Hesse, Hannah Storm and Skip Maas and coached by Andie Martin.

The Fine Arts Team members are Paulette Koronkevich, Mary Strange and Caroline Wehner. The team is coached by Carole Williams and Bill Gordon.

The Interdisciplinary Team members are Sophie Edens, Mary Strange, Megan Hill, Rebekah Israel, Collin Hambrick and Paul Koronkevich.
