Switzerland County woman dies in bicycle accident
Courier Staff Report
Tuesday, August 19, 2014 11:00 AM
A Switzerland County woman died from her injuries after crashing her bicycle over an embankment Saturday.
Antoinette Evelyn "Toni" Kniola, 66, of Vevay, was riding a bicycle along Long Run Road with her husband around 7 p.m. when her front bicycle tire hit her husband's rear bicycle tire near Mennets Hollow Road. Kniola applied her brakes after the incident, but lost control of her bicycle and crashed over an eight- to 10-foot embankment.
Kniola asked her husband, John, to find help following the accident, and he rode on up the road to a home to call 911.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported Kniola to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Kniola served as a board member of the Historic Hoosier Theater in Vevay and had served as past president.
She was a member of the Republican Women's Club. She also was involved with the Switzerland County Republican Party, recently running for the office of Craig Township trustee.
