Milton City Commissioners accepted the resignation of Commissioner Tom Mahoney during a meeting Thursday night.
Commissioners unanimously approved the resignation with regret after an executive session to discuss personnel. Mayor Denny Jackson said Mahoney, who was absent from the meeting, resigned for personal reasons.
"We appreciate the service he gave to the commission and city," Commissioner Cecil Robak said.
The commission will look for a Milton resident to fill the vacancy within the next 30 days. Anyone interested in applying for the position should contact a current commissioner or city hall.
The appointed commissioner would finish out the term, which ends Dec. 31.
Also during the meeting, the city's field supervisor Mark Bates said the weather caused a few problems with the city's water system. The city also used about 45 tons of salt this winter, and several hours of overtime were logged to remove the winter slush from the city's roadways.
Bates said the city still has a good supply of salt, but he has already placed calls for another order for future snow or ice storms.
In other business:
City Clerk Pam Joyce said a computer and printer in city hall are not working properly and will most likely need to be replaced soon.
Commissioners agreed to allow the purchase of office supplies and equipment up to $300 to be purchased throughout the month without prior approval from the commission. Purchases should be reported to the commission at the next commission meeting.
