Thomas Lippert

Thomas Edward Lippert, 80, of Louisville, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Jefferson Place in Louisville, Ky.

He was born May 17, 1933, in Cane, Pa., to Maurice and Marie Erich Lippert. After high school, he was recruited by the Penn State University football program. He played for two seasons. He then served in the Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he graduated from Wilmington College of Ohio with a degree in business and economics. He worked at the Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Ky., after graduation.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Lippert, whom he married May 1, 1965; one daughter, Nicole Will of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Erich Thomas Lippert of Louisville, Ky.; and two grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his mother.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.

Arthur Townsend Jr.

Arthur George Townsend Jr., 74, of Bedford, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born April 14, 1939, in Gastonia, N.C., to Arthur George Sr. and Eunice Estelle Hinson Townsend. He worked in masonry for Townsend & Sons. After his retirement he was employed at Morris Security. He was a former Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed square dancing, line dancing and spending time with the senior citizens. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren, nieces and nephews play sports.

He is survived by two sons, Arthur George Townsend III of Milton, Ky., and John Wayne Townsend of Jeffersonville; seven siblings, J.W. Townsend and Jerry Townsend, both of LaGrange, Ky., Danny Townsend of Pendleton, Ky., Carolyn Mitchel and Delores Ginn, both of Bedford, Ky., Vanita Fogle of Pendleton, Ky., and Bobby Townsend of Simi Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce D. Townsend, who died in 2006; one daughter, Judy Annett Townsend; his parents; and three sisters, Jeanelle Edds, Margaret Gabbard and Patricia Abbott.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton, Ky. Cremation was chosen. Burial will be private.

Friends may call at the church Monday from 2 p.m. until the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Townsend Memorial Fund.
