Martha Coomer

Martha Elenore Coomer, 76, of Madison, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in Jeffersonville.

She was born July 9, 1937, in Marysville, to Joseph and Mable McDaniel Cissel. She retired from Morgan Foods and was a homemaker. She was a member of Shelter of the Sheep in Austin.

She is survived by her husband, Walker Coomer Jr., whom she married Sept. 3, 1953; two sons, Roy Coomer and Robert Coomer, both of Austin; one daughter, Juanita Combs of Madison; two step sons, Elmer Coomer of Ohio and James Coomer of Kentucky; one brother, Jimmy Cissel of Clarksville; one sister, Madge Shafer of Scottsburg; 15 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Fox; one son, Charlie Coomer; her parents; and two sisters, Annabelle Carlisle and Mary Spencer.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at Stewart & Hoagland Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Burial will be in Charlestown Cemetery.

Braylen Hawkins

Braylen Lee Hawkins, 21, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born Sept. 1, 1992, in Madison, to Joey L. Hawkins and Rebecca J. Caldwell. He resided all of his life in Jefferson County. He attended Southwestern Schools and was later home schooled. He enjoyed playing with his toys and making happy sounds.

He is survived by his caregiver and maternal grandmother, Sandra K. Jackson Williams of Lexington; his mother, Rebecca J. Caldwell Sizemore and her husband, Perry of Lexington; his father, Joey L. Hawkins of Madison; one half sister, Sierra Sizemore of Lexington; two step sisters, Samantha Sizemore of Lexington and Ashley Sizemore of Premium, Ky.; one step brother, Douglas Sizemore of Lexington; paternal grandparents, Ron and Shirley Dierkes of Madison; maternal grandfather, James Caldwell and his wife, Lois of Mansfield, Ohio; one uncle; two cousins; and several great-aunts and great-uncles.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Boyce "Pooge" and Daisy Jackson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery near Chelsea.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Benjamin Imus

Benjamin Wayman "Ben" Imus, 87, of Madison, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

He was born July 23, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., to Benjamin Lincoln and Mazie E. Fallen Imus. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1944. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He served in the Army from 1953 to April 1, 1960, rising to the rank of Corporal during the Korean War. He resided in Cincinnati, Ohio for 50 years, moving back to Madison in 2007. He had worked as a chemical engineer, process engineer, design engineer, foreman, scheduling manager and production manager. He was employed with Emery Industries in Cincinnati, Ohio for 40 years. He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Marie Clark Imus, whom he married Sept. 8, 1956; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Douglas Imus, who died Jan. 26, 2003; his father; his mother, Mazie E. Fallen Imus Copeland; one brother, Paul Rothe; and one sister, Evadna Griffith.

A private funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be private at the funeral home Friday from 1 p.m. until the service. A final salute will be conducted by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dale Taylor

Dale B. Taylor, 90, of Madison, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

He was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Trimble County, Ky., to Daniel Boone and Anna Laura Mosgrove Taylor. He moved to Jefferson County in 1937. He attended Brooksburg Elementary School then graduated from Madison High School in 1943. He served in the Navy from May 1944 to May 1946, during World War II. He and his first wife were farmers near Brooksburg for many years. He was a member of the Brooksburg Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. He enjoyed sports, pitch-in dinners, family gatherings, traveling to Florida and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Demaree Taylor; three step daughters, Charlotte Conrad, Cindy Demaree and Susan Buchanan, all of Madison; one sister, Patty Taylor Imel of Madison; three step-grandsons; four nieces; six nephews, Kim D. Imel, Rick L. Imel and his wife, Marilyn, Rodney Dale Imel all of Madison, Ted Taylor, Dan Callihan and Craig Callihan all of Kentucky; two great-nephews, Christopher Imel and Travis Imel both of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Clements Taylor, whom he married June 1946, and who died Sept. 29, 1995; his parents; two sisters, Lois Wright and Doris Callihan; and one brother, Keith Taylor.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vail Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Brooksburg Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.
