DeLora Walters McCoy, 90, of Milton, Ky., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.
Funeral arrangements and additional information are pending at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
Joyce B. Salyers, 75, of North Vernon, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.
She was born Jan. 1, 1939, in Fleming-Neon, Ky., to Floyd and Pearl Collier Bentley. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Morehead State College, and then graduated from Indiana University with a master's degree and educational specialist degree. She began her career as a home economics teacher at North Vernon High School. She later became a guidance counselor, director of guidance, and senior guidance counselor at Jennings County High School. When she retired, she was the assistant principal of Jennings County High School. She was a member of the Wednesday Research Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Rolling Hills Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Foundation. She was elected to the Jennings County School Board and served as president. After her retirement she served as the interim director of guidance at Madison Consolidated High School. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, her home and her dog.
She is survived by her husband, Merrill Salyers, whom she married Jan. 10, 1959; one daughter, Melissa Maupin of Sussex, Wis.; two sons, Michael Salyers of Batavia, Ill., and Mitchell Salyers of Greenwood; one sister, Lois Bentley of Winchester, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Burial will be in Hayden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday before the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hayden Museum.
