Sonja Kay Cartwright, 70, of North Vernon, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Decatur County, to Clifton A. and Gladys I. Heaton Castor. She had been employed with the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, U.S. Shoe Corporation in Madison, JC Penney and Aisin. She had been a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed cooking, making floral arrangements, and stained glass.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Cartwright, whom she married July 6, 1960; three sons, Joe Cartwright and Chuck Cartwright, both of North Vernon, and Carl Cartwright of South Carolina; one daughter, Denese Wilkens of Florida; one brother, Carl Castor; three sisters, Della Zink, Ruth Back and Donna Lewark; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; and seven great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles Castor, Willard Castor, Leon Castor and Connard Castor; and four sisters, Martha Irene Herron, Anna Baker, Wilma Burton and Silvia Castor.
The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Cremation was chosen. Interment will be at a later date in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 3 p.m. until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the New Freedom Church Cemetery and the Vernon Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

Everett R. Ryker, 56, of Austin, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in New Albany.
He was born Jan. 12, 1957, in Jeffersonville, to Lawrence William and Bertie Napier Ryker. He was employed with Grayson's Inc. in Charlestown. He was a demolition derby driver. He enjoyed archery, bowling, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Gina Rice Ryker, whom he married May 16, 1981; his mother of Spencer; one brother, Charles William Ryker of Fountaintown; one sister, Alice Ryker Owen of Hanover; three nieces; two nephews; four great-nieces; six great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; three aunts; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by one son, William Andrew Ryker; his father; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Cassie Ball Napier; his paternal grandparents, Elmer and Etta Hopper Ryker; four uncles; three aunts; one great-great-neice; and two cousins.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stewart and Hoagland Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Burial will be in Scottsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Betty A. Davis Shadday, 71, of Madison, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her residence.

Goldean Slusher, 83, of Carrollton, Ky., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
She was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Owen County, Ky., to George and Sophia Bates Howell. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her companion of 32 years, Morris Wayne Sargent of Carrollton, Ky.; four sons, Danny Payton, Charlie Payton, James Payton and Steve Payton, all of Carrollton, Ky.; two daughters, Donna Henry and Lois Harmon, both of Carrollton, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy Howell, Amy Howell and Charlie Howell; and one grandson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Cremation was chosen.
