Terry Holt

Terry Lee Holt, 57, of Madison, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 6, 1956, in Madison, to Philip and Zelpha Kirby Holt. He was raised in Madison and was a 1974 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. During high school he played football and ran track. He attended Vincennes University. He was employed as a truck driver with H&H Trucking in Madison for several years. He was also employed as a carpet transporter with Carpet Max for several years. He enjoyed model airplanes, especially World War II models. He was an artist and a marksman. He also enjoyed animals and spending time with his family. He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Philip Lee Holt and Joanne Holt of Rockledge, Fla.; his mother, of Hanover; one brother, Randy Holt of Madison; one niece; two aunts; and several cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Leah Holt, and Elbert and Fostina Kirby.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter.

Janice Jenkins

Janice Lea Phillips Jenkins, 61, of Madison, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in Madison.

She was born May 31, 1952, in Denver, Colo., to Charles and Deane Phillips. She was a 1971 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. She continued to live in Madison until 1973. From 1973 to 1982, she served in the Army. She resided in Hinesville, Ga., until 2012. She was active in the Boy Scouts of America. She was also an Avon representative for many years. Following her husband's death, she returned to Madison.

She is survived by two daughters, Jamalee Golden of Hinesville, Ga., and Chiquita Jenkins of Radcliff, Ky.; two sons, Michael Roberts of Hinesville, Ga., and Ontia Jenkins of Lake City, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Harris "Jay" Jenkins; and her parents.

The funeral was Sept. 24 at the Frank V. Givens Memorial Chapel, Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway, Ga. Burial was in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Ga.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the home of Dean and Robin Lovins in Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to an animal shelter or a disabled veterans organization.



Frank Lanham

Frank C. "Frankie" Lanham, 71, of Madison, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Melvin McCombs

Melvin M. McCombs,  91, of Louisville, Ky., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013,  in Louisville, Ky.

He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Edmonson County, Ky., to Milton W. and Maude Smith McCombs. He served in the Navy during World War II. He retired as a self-employed mason. He was a member of Cedar Hill United Baptist Church, Post 200 of the American Legion and the Brick Layers Union.

He is survived by two daughters, Jean Crawford of Depauw and Jane Davis of Madison; two brothers, Gilbert McCombs of LaGrange, Ky., and George "Dean" McCombs of Munfordville, Ky.; three sisters, Zula Tatman of London, Ohio, Marie Driskell of Louisville, Ky., and Barbara Key of Glendale, Ky.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Inez M. Bird McCombs; one son, Larry McCombs; his parents; three brothers, Van McCombs, Ed McCombs and June McCombs; and one sister, Ola Mae McCombs. 

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel in Brownsville, Ky. Burial will be in Fairview United Baptist Church Cemetery in Brownsville, Ky. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Nesbit Alexander Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6937.

Marlene Jane Howell Russell, 74, of Madison, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

Daniel X. Stoltzfus Jr., 18, of Versailles, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, in a traffic accident on U.S. 421 near Correct.

Matthew Turner

Matthew Aaron Turner, 31, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1982, in Madison, to G.B. and Sharon K. Chandler Turner. He was a member of the Vevay Assembly Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his father of Worthville, Ky.; his mother of Hanover; four siblings, Shannon Turner of Maryland Heights, Mo., Charity Purvis of Hanover, Joseph Turner of Hanover and Mark Turner of Vevay.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thurman and Mable Chandler; and his paternal grandparents, James and Callie Turner.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.
