The Day of Caring is a nationwide program to give local residents and companies a chance to work with agencies for a half- or full-day service projects. The program helps companies and residents meet the needs of local nonprofit groups while promoting volunteerism and team building.
This year's project will take place at the Marble Valley Cemetery on Michigan Road, where volunteers will clean up and help reset headstones damaged over the winter. Some of the headstones go back to the Revolutionary War era and were moved in the 1940s from the Jefferson Proving Ground area.
Also on Saturday, The Clearinghouse of Jefferson County is asking for volunteers to help get the new facility ready for offices to move. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to noon to give the building a final cleaning. Mops and cleaning supplies also are needed.
