The Art On Main Gallery invites submissions for a special exhibit to celebrate Black History Month in February.
Artists are invited to submit original artwork in any media including photography. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional (sculpture) works will also be accepted. All pieces that are ready-to-display will be accepted. There is no fee to submit artwork. Pieces may be exhibited as not for sale.
Artists may submit up to three pieces. If the number of submissions exceeds available exhibit space, the Madison Art Club will make the final selections. Unless otherwise pre-approved as historical, all pieces must be created by the submitting artist.
The exhibit is looking for pieces whose primary theme or subject matter relates to present-day or historical African Americans. Some examples include portraits or sculptures depicting African Americans; and artwork or photographs of buildings with historical significance to African Americans.
Of particular interest are regional pieces relating to Jefferson County and the surrounding counties in Indiana and Kentucky.
Artwork must be hand-delivered to Art On Main, 309 W. Main St., on or before Sunday, Jan. 26. Artwork must have a label with the artist's name, address and phone number, the medium, the title and the selling price if the item is to be offered for sale.
The exhibit will run from Feb. 1-28, 2014. An opening reception will be held Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Following the exhibit, artwork must be picked up by Sunday, March 8.
The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. It is closed Wednesdays, except by appointment.
