POETPALOOZA: Village Lights Bookstore will host a tri-state poetry summit April 11-12 with hourly readings and signings by regional poets. The event will also include live music from The Chestnuts Friday evening. The public is invited to participate in the Saturday night event finale, an open mic poetry slam lite. Shrek the Musical: Madison Consolidated High School Theater will present "Shrek the Musical" at 7 p.m. April 11 and 12 and at 2:30 p.m. April 12 and 13 in the MCHS Opal E. Sherman Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students or balcony seating. The students will also host a swamp party April 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria with food, games, crafts, photographs and autographs from the cast. All tickets are $10 for the party, which does not include the show. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Hot Luck and Fiery Foods: Thomas Family Winery will host the 18th annual event April 11-13. The "Hot Luck" will begin Friday at 7 p.m. Admission is a fiery covered dish and recipes to share. The weekend also includes a salsa competition, fiery foods marketplace and live music. A ticketed Sunday brunch will begin at 11 a.m. with jazz from Rob Houze. Tickets for the brunch are $15. Bits & Pieces Quilt Show: Will be held April 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County 4-H Fairgrounds. Admission is $3.
Recreation, Conservation and Volunteerism at Big Oaks: Joe Robb, refuge manager at Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge will speak at 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library Madison branch. The talk will focus on the activities that occur at Big Oaks, highlighting different events as the seasons change and how visitors and volunteers can take advantage of what this National Wildlife Refuge has to offer.
Freethinkers Coffee and Conversation: Will meet at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month at Mumbles.
Jefferson County Clearinghouse Planning Meeting: Will meet at 8 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at 215 E. Main St., Suite 1.
Carroll County Fiscal Court: Will meet at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the Fiscal Court on the second floor of the Carroll County Courthouse.
NAMI Family Support Group: Will meet from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at Faith Lutheran Church to support family members of those who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Pinwheels for Prevention Ceremony: Will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 416 Vine St., as part of a statewide event marking the need to prevent child abuse in Indiana. Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis and other community partners will speak, Rev. Clifton Hartley will lead a prayer and the Southwestern High School band will perform. No More Cutting: A support group for girls from junior high to college who struggle with depression, fear, anxiety and suicidal thoughts will meet every Friday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1429 Clifty Drive, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The group is spiritually-based and non-denominational.
