Fabian, top, is a calm, gentle and affectionate boy. He likes to snuggle and will be a lap puppy if allowed. He is a bit shy, but warms up quickly. He walks well on a leash and would like enjoy going for walks. Fabian is a 1 to 3-year-old black Labrador Retriever mix. He weighs 58 pounds and does well with cats.

Marnie, bottom, is a shy and gentle girl that is missing home. Her owner gave her up and she is stressed being in the shelter. She likes quiet and will do best in a home without a lot of activity. She will quietly purr and talk to you when you come to meet her. She is 1 to 2-years-old and is small for an adult. Marnie is a long-haired brown tabby with white and has a big mane of fur. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. Her adoption fee is just $45.

The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has more than 16 dogs and puppies, and 12 cats and kittens available. Pictures of additional pets waiting for adoption can be seen at www.sisaveapet.com.

There are three cats at the shelter that are already spayed or neutered and are only $45 to adopt. There are also several pets that have $50 sponsorships toward their spay/neuter fees.

Normal shelter hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. It is closed Tuesday. The shelter number is (812) 273-1788 and their email is jcas39@seidata.com.

The shelter is collecting aluminum cans for the dog and cat medical fund. Donors can drop off rinsed and dried aluminum cans at the shelter.

Volunteers are always welcome at the shelter to help with walking dogs, playing with puppies and kittens and many other tasks. Volunteers must be 16 years old.

Donations can be mailed to 2727 Hannah Drive, Madison, IN 47250 or dropped off during shelter hours.

Animals should not be abandoned outside of the shelter or dropped off at the shelter after hours.
