SCRIPPS REGIONAL SPELLING BEE: Trey Suggett competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Feb. 22. Suggett, a fifth-grader at Pope John XXIII Elementary School, advanced to the regional by winning his school bee and completing an online test. Ashley Boldery of Hanover has been accepted to Ashland University for the fall semester of 2014-2015 school year.
Boldery, a senior at Southwestern Junior-Senior High School, was awarded the Director's Scholarship for $7,000 annually.
Southwestern Middle School recently announced the students of the month for January. Students honored were:
Sixth Grade: Reading/English, Avery Davis and Quinton Isenhower; writing, Joanna Yates and Belle Stubbins; math, Hannah Lazinski and Bryce Spray; science, Nick Scroggin and Mitchell Adcock; and social studies, Heaven Webster and Allessandro Nonato.
Seventh Grade: Pre-algebra, Kassey Worcester, Kaylee Spegal, Skyler Short and Elizabeth Allen; enrichment, Brendan Courter; English, Grace Marshall and Andrew Siemon; reading, Blake Rutherford and Riley Elliott; and social studies, Xavier Carroll and Christopher Mardello.
Eighth Grade: Science, Christian Balboa and Sydney Randall; social studies, Marissa Webster and Skyler Wynn; pre-algebra, Sammi Bright; English, Zoe Griffin and Hailey Riley; and algebra, Skyler Wynn.

Seventh Grade: Pre-algebra, Dobs Laymon, Blake Rutherford, Xavier Carroll and Laney Marshall; science, Ben McDonald and Kaytlynn Sommer; enrichment, Samara Sims, Dobs Laymon and Brayton Winston; social studies, Lakyn Wilson and Megan Thomas; English, Harley Middleton and Michael Abbott; and reading, Kaylee Spegal, Kyle Kuhn and Jordyn Bryant
