CINCINNATI (AP) - Reds All-Star first baseman Joey Votto began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

Votto hadn't played since going on the disabled list on May 21, retroactive to May 16, with a quadriceps strain in his left knee, the same knee on which he had two surgeries in 2012.

Votto was slated to play six innings at Pawtucket, R.I., but stayed in for one last at-bat and broke up Chris Hernandez's no-hit bid for Pawtucket in the top of the seventh with a single up the middle in the 4-3 loss to the PawSox. Josh Smith then came in to pinch run for Votto, who was 1-for-3.
