The Spirit of The Losing Team
© 2013 Tony D. McRae
The lights are still on though the game is long over
The players have all left the field
The ‘hometown advantage’ escaped us this time
With the visitors refusing to yield
A line of cars exits the parking lot
You can tell who are fans of which teams
Some pass with quiet solemnity
Others with whoops and screams
Into the evening shadows we ride
Reviewing each play in our minds
Learning from every mistake that was made
So we don’t make the same ones next time
And though we may have lost the game
It will not depress us at all
We’re gonna work hard till we’re ranked number one
When the playoffs begin in the fall!
