- Madison's seventh grade boys AAU basketball team won its second straight USSFA state championship at Eastern Hancock High School last weekend to conclude the team's 2012-2013 season.

The Cubs went undefeated in the tournament, capping off that run with a 47-42 title game win over the host Royals.

The team competed in eight tournaments in 2012-13, winning three and finishing as runner-up twice en route to a 30-6 record on the season. The team has compiled a 140-24 record over the last three years.

Team members include: Will Bruns, Landon Conner, Andrew Frazier, Carson Howser, A.J. Karst, Tyler Morrison, Braydon Perry and Connor Thurnall. The team is coached by Mark Andrew and Jeff Frazier is the assistant.

This is the seventh straight season that the Madison Basketball Club has fielded a state champion.



- Shawe's girls junior high tennis team defeated Southwestern 5-0 on Thursday.

Match results were: Singles - No. 1 Megan Hesse (SM) d. Hannah Schafer (SW) 8-0; No. 2 Kate Grote (SM) d. Becca Palmer (SW) 8-1; No. 3 Katrina Gobert (SM) d. Anna Gray (SW) 8-1; Doubles - No. 1 Kristen Snodgrass and Bailee Brandon (SM) d. Kelsey Jones and Kaylan Anderson (SW) 8-1; No. 2 Lilly Boone and Kelly Hesse (SM) d. Amber Morrison and Haley Davis (SW) 8-6.

Shawe's Lydia Goebelalso defeated Southwestern's Juli Lazama 6-4 in exhibition play.



- The Madison Gymnastics Elite Cheer group will hold tryouts on Saturday, April 20 from 5-8:30 p.m.

The final practice for the tryout will be Saturday, April 20 from 7-8:30 a.m. Tryouts are open to anyone between ages 6-18 years old.



- The Sunrise Ladies Golf League has openings for women interested in playing with the organization this season.

A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 in the Sunrise Clubhouse at 5 p.m. The first day of league play will be Monday, May 6.

- Hanover College will be host its annual Race To The Point on Saturday, May 4 at 8 a.m.

The event begins at the Hanover College Point with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Registration costs $10 before April 20, $15 before April 27 and $20 the day of the race. All student fees are $10.
