- Switzerland County's jayvee boys basketball team picked up a pair of wins this past weekend.

On Friday, the Pacers won 46-32 at Jac-Cen-Del. Hunter Hayes led the way with 16 points while Dakota Fuller had 13. Justin Green and Caleb Furnish had nine and eight, respectively.

Switzerland County won again on Saturday 52-41 over South Dearborn at home. Justin Green had a team-high 16 points. Dakota Fuller scored 12 and Caleb Furnish had 10.

The Pacers host Madison on Friday in their final game of the season.



- Trimble County and Carroll County girls basketball combined to put four players on the All-North Central Kentucky Conference team.

Trimble County selections include Paige Black, Jessie Dunlap and Kaylee Clifford. Lauren Moore was the lone Carroll County selection.

Others named to the All-NCKC team were: Katie Cheek and Micahela Kennedy, both of Williamstown; Brooke Dossett and Hannah Dossett, both of Gallatin County; Shelby Mulikin and Allie Mills, both of Walton-Verona; Ashlee Gravley, Owen County; and Cheyenne Clark, Henry County.



- Former Madison track and football standout Wayne Sherbahn scored a third place and a fifth place for Indiana Tech at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Angola.

Sherbahn, a 2013 Madison graduate and freshman at Tech, was third in the 60-meter dash in 6.92 and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 22.2.

Sherbahn's time in the 200 was good enough to meet the standard and make him eligibile for the Indoor Nationals March 6-8 in Ohio.



- Former Madison Cub baseball standout Ryan Thurston pitched one-third of an inning for Western Kentucky University and retired the only batter he faced as the Hilltoppers baseball team swept a three-game series from the University of North Carolina-Asheville 8-5, 6-4 and 13-2.

The Hilltoppers are now 5-2 on the season and travel to undefeated and No. 6 Vanderbilt University today. Next weekend Western visits Greenville, N.C. to play in the East Carolina Keith LeClair where the Hilltoppers play East Carolina on Friday, Ohio State on Saturday and the University of Pittsburgh on Sunday.

- Madison Consolidated High School's cheerleading squad won a cheerfest held this month at South Dearborn High School in Aurora.

- Madison's jayvee boys basketball team lost 48-44 in overtime Friday at Columbus East.

Carson Compton led the Cubs with 10 points. Quenton White scored eight.

Madison, now 12-5, hosts South Ripley tonight.



- Applications for the Lide White Boys & Girls Club's Little League Wrestling are currently available for all boys and girls four years of age through fifth grade.

Athletes who are currently participating on a middle or junior high school team are not eligible for Little League meets or the Little League Tournament but they can be a candidate for the Club Madison team.

Applications are due Friday and the cost is $30 for Lide White Club members (includes a T-shirt) and $40 for non-members (includes a limited membership and T-shirt). A $10 late fee will be added after Friday. Wrestling begins March 3 and runs through April 24.

- Shawe Memorial Junior-Senior High School is looking to fill a vacancy for varsity head volleyball coach for the 2014 season.

- The Madison Parks Department is currently accepting applications for summer baseball and softball.

Application deadlines are April 4 for ages seven through 12 and May 16 for ages 13 and 15. A player's age as of May 1 will determine in which league he or she will play.

Participation fee is $50. Applications are available at the Madison Parks Department's office located in the Brown Gym on Broadway Street. Applications can also be obtained online at www.madisonparks.com and at area schools and businesses.

- The Madison Lide White Boys and Girls Club is hosting the Madison Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast on Saturday March 1 from 8 a.m. to 11.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the boys and girls club. Profits will go towards the club and the Madison Kiwanis Club.



- The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter will hold its third annual 5K Spring Sprint Walk/Run on April 5.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Early registration costs $20 if postmarked by March 15 but is $25 after. Funds collected will go towards the construction of a new shelter building.

Checks are payable to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter Building Fund.

This year the walk/run will allow leashed dogs to join the walkers and runners. Dogs must be current on rabies vaccinations and know how to behave around others.
