Hanover's men test No. 2 Wooster before falling 63-53 at 'Mose' Hole

Second-ranked Wooster (Ohio) held off a second-half rally by Hanover to post a 63-53 men's basketball win in the 51st-annual "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic on Monday in Wooster.
Wooster led by as many as 14 points in the first half (24-10) before Hanover eventually whittled the margin to one point (39-38) early in the second period.
The Scots led 35-26 at the break, but Kyle James made two 3-pointers and Matt Wehner hit another trey to key a 12-4 run to get the Panthers within 39-38 with 14:41 to play.
Hanover remained within six points over the following 10 minutes but Wooster, clinging to a 50-44 lead, reeled off a 7-1 run over a two-minute span to build a 57-45 advantage with 3:43 left.
Jacob Steinhart hit a 3-pointer to get the Panthers within 60-53 with 31 seconds remaining, but Hanover could get no closer the rest of the way.
James scored 14 points and Wehner finished with 12 to lead the Panthers, now 6-4 on the season. Both players earned a spot on the all-classic team.
Xavier Brown paced Wooster with 19 points and Doug Thorpe added 14.
Hanover was 17-of-56 from the field (30.4 percent), including a 6-of-22 effort from long range (27.3 percent). The squad connected on 13-of-22 free throws (59.1 percent).
Wooster (10-1) made 21-of-53 field goals (39.6 percent), with seven 3-pointers, and hit 14-of-22 free throws (63.6 percent).
James gathered in a career-high nine rebounds to lead the Panthers on the glass. Freshman center Corey Muchmore pulled down eight boards and Jacob Rieger snagged seven to match his season high.
Hanover hosts Defiance (Ohio) on Saturday.
