Hanover's win streak halted by Blueboys

Hanover men's basketball's three-game win streak came to a screeching halt on Sunday, falling to Illinois College 88-81 in the opening game of the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic in Wooster, Ohio.
The Panthers drained nine 3-pointers while shooting a sizzling 34-of-68 from the field for 50 percent but the free-throw line decided the game. Hanover went to the line just six times, making 4-of-6 while Illinois shot 35 free throws and hit 28-of-35 for 80 percent.
Hanover led 40-39 at halftime but the Blueboys scored 23 seconds into the second half to grab a 41-40 lead and never trailed again. Trailing 58-48 at the 13:35 mark, Hanover's Matt Wehner hit back-to-back 3-pointers to launch a 12-4 run that concluded with two buckets in the post by freshman Corey Muchmore.
The Panthers trailed by just one with 5:39 to go but Illinois answered with a 10-2 run and built its lead back up to nine at 81-72. Jacob Rieger scored two buckets, Muchmore added a two and junior guard Tim Bass hit a 3-pointer to pull Hanover to within three with 14 seconds remaining but the Blueboys' Brandon Berry hit four straight free-throws in the final 10 seconds to secure the 88-81 win.
Hanover put four players in double figures. Wehner led the way with 17 points while Muchmore scored 16, Kyle James added 12 points and Bass scored 10.
Illinois (5-3) got a monster game from center Brandon Berry. Berry recorded a double-double with 35 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with 11 rebounds. Zeke Light came off the bench to score 19 points while Nathan Kohler added 10.
Hanover (6-3) faces tournament host Wooster today. Wooster is currently ranked second in the latest NCAA Division III poll.
