Hanover women's basketball extended its winning streak to six games on Saturday with a 79-66 victory over Bluffton in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Collier Arena.
Hanover's offense shot out of the gate fast to go on an 11-0 run after the tipoff and followed that minutes later with a 23-8 spurt that staked the Panthers to a 41-27 lead at halftime.
Bluffton (11-8, 7-5 HCAC) got 20 second half points from Brooke Ruffer but Hanover freshman and Austin graduate Jessie Davidson scored 15 points of her own and the Panthers' lead was a steady double-digits for the final 20 minutes en route to the 13 point win.
Three Hanover players scored in double figures. Caitlin Bischoff poured in a team-high 19 points, Davidson finished with 17 and Alicia Hopkins added 12.
Bluffton got 26 points from Ruffer who also had 14 rebounds for a double-double. Taylor Knight added 17 points and Taylor Whitaker chipped in 11.
Hanover (11-8, 9-3 HCAC) hosts HCAC rival Franklin on Wednesday.
Men fall to Bluffton
Hanover men's basketball suffered a disappointing Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback Saturday, falling 76-66 to Bluffton at home.
Hanover led 29-27 at halftime and the Panthers maintained that advantage until midway through the second half when Bluffton mounted a 19-7 run over the next seven minutes to take a 57-49 lead with less than five minutes to play.
Bluffton (7-12, 3-9 HCAC) expanded that margin to 12 with 1:37 remaining but Hanover's Tim Bass rallied rallied the Panthers by scoring 11 points in a 49-second stretch to pull the Panthers to within six with 43 seconds left.
But that's where the comeback hit a wall and Hanover made just one more shot the rest of the way while the Beavers drilled seven straight free to clinch the 10-point win.
Bass led the Panthers scoring with 23 points. Sophomore forwards V.J. Billups and Evan Bingham added 11 each.
Bluffton's Billy Taflinger led all scorers with 32 points. Thayne Recker recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Beavers.
Hanover (12-7, 8-4 HCAC) visits HCAC rival Franklin on Wednesday for an conference showdown with the Grizzlies.
