Shawe Memorial got off to a good start but couldn't sustain that in a 76-49 boys basketball loss Tuesday at Milan.
The Hilltoppers trailed 23-21 after the first quarter but the Indians pulled away to lead 46-28 at halftime and 60-34 after three quarters.
"We struggled taking care of the ball for yet another night against any pressure after the first quarter," Shawe coach Matt Traylor said. "When they started to speed us up we let it get out of control very quickly. Defensively we got lost on screens and then couldn't respond quick enough to affect them offensively."
Brad Koehler scored 12 of his team-high 19 points in the first quarter to lead Shawe. He also had five rebounds.
Kaelan Jines had 13 points and five rebounds, Grayson Rhoten had three points, six assists and five rebounds, Sid Thevenow had eight points and Zach Brooks had five points and four rebounds."
"Grayson made a few plays with the ball and handled it fairly well for the amount he had it. He made decisions better than anyone else for us tonight," Traylor said. "I guess the most encouraging part about tonight is that our regular season is over and we start the sectionals with a 0-0 record."
Shawe ends the regular season at 1-19 overall and 1-5 in the Ohio River Valley Conference.
The Hilltoppers open sectional play at South Decatur on Tuesday when they face Rising Sun in the first round.
