LORAIN, Ohio - Former Madison Cub Ryan Thurston pitched five innings of five-hit baseball for the Champion City Kings in a 7-6 loss to the Lorain County Ironmen on Wednesday.
Thurston, a 2013 graduate of Madison who pitched last season for Western Kentucky University, got a no-decision for his efforts at The Pipe Yard in Lorain. The start of the game was delayed 65 minutes by rain.
He allowed four runs - three earned - on five hits and two walks while striking out five. The Kings led the Ironmen 6-4 when Thurston left the game after the bottom of the fifth inning.
Thurston is now 0-1 in three starts this season with a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings pitched. His 13 total strikeouts leads the Kings, now 8-5 and in second place in the East Division of the Prospect League.
