Hanover men's basketball lost to league-leading Rose-Hulman 61-50 on Wednesday in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Terre Haute.
Rose-Hulman controlled most of the contest and led 30-23 at halftime before pushing its advantage to 46-33 midway through the second half.
Trailing by 12 two minutes later, the Panthers used six points by Kyle James to spark an 8-2 and pull within six but the Engineers answered to go back up by 10 with five minutes remaining and maintained that double-digit lead the rest of the way to win by 11.
James led Hanover with 17 points. Desmond Marks scored 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field.
Rose-Hulman All-American candidate Julian Strickland led all scorers with 26 points and Jimmy Miller added 10. Corey Povaleri, a 2011 Madison graduate, came off the bench to score four points and grab two rebounds for the Engineers (18-4, 13-2 HCAC).
Hanover had already locked up a spot in the upcoming HCAC tournament with Saturday's win at Earlham. The Panthers are now tied for third in the conference with College of Mount St. Joseph at 10-5. Defiance is alone in second at 12-3 in the HCAC.
Hanover, 14-8 overall, hosts Anderson (5-17, 5-10 HCAC) on Saturday.
