NCKC tourney under way

Carroll County and Trimble County both competed in the opening round of the North Central Kentucky Conference boys and girls tennis tournaments Friday in Bedford.
Gallatin County also took part in the event.
In boys action, Carroll and Trimble each advanced one to the semifinal round in the singles tournament. The Panthers' Joe Gemmer earned a win over Trimble's Kenny Payton while the Raiders' Alex Dixon received a first-round bye.
The Carroll County team of Abercrombie and Corbin also advanced, earning a win in doubles competition. Trimble's Weaver and Ely advanced to the semifinals via an opening round bye.
Boys results were: Singles - Trevor Lewis (GC) d. Zeke Gates (CC) 6-0, 6-3; Joe Gemmer (CC) d. Kenny Payton (TC) 6-0, 6-0; Doubles - Abercrombie, Corbin (CC) d. Foster, Lowe (GC) 6-1, 6-0; Wright, Carlton (GC) d. Gibson, Johnson (TC) 6-0, 6-0.
In the girls opening round, Carroll County's Sarah McCarter and Trimble County's Destiny Harp earned trips to the singles semifinals. McCarter advanced, receiving a bye.
Trimble's Lawhorn and Hess along with Carroll's Conley and Walker both scored wins in the doubles opening round and will compete in the semifinals.
Girls results were: Singles - Destiny Harp (TC) d. Ashley Davidson (CC) 6-2, 2-6, 10-3; Doubles - Lawhorn, Hess (TC) d. Bond, Merdia (GC) 6-1, 6-1; Conley, Walker (CC) d. Halbrendt, (GC) 6-2, 6-3.
Semifinal action starts this morning at 9 a.m.
