Southwestern wasted little time in dispatching Jennings County in a 5-0 girls tennis win on Friday in North Vernon.
The Lady Rebels, the defending sectional champions, lost just eight games en route to sweeping all five matches in straight sets.
"It is the first time we have played at Jennings County and it turned out to be a good day," Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said. "Everyone was really focused and played very well. To give up only eight games, and four of them from No. 1 doubles is pretty good, and showed we came ready to play. I am really happy with our progression this early in the season. That is a great sign of things to come. "
Results were: Singles - No. 1 Abbey Garrett (SW) d. Amy Gasper (JC) 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Sarah Anderson (SW) d. Avis McGovern (JC) 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Emily Watkins (SW) d. Kristen Nottingham (JC) 6-1, 6-0; Doubles - No. 1 Jordan Worcester, Kearstin Bruther (SW) d. Brittany Lykins, Elains Lykins (JC) 6-0, 6-4; No. 2 Meredith Webber, Heather Totten (SW) Hailee Harmon, Megan Burton (JC) 6-0, 6-0.
Southwestern, now 3-0, hosts South Dearborn on Tuesday.
